mmmm....yeah....i went to a kimchi factory several months ago with some of the people who are in the same graduate program as i am....
everything was going great, and then they made us suit up as if we were going to be dealing with radioactive material or something....getting into the sterile get-up wasn't the weirdest thing....once we got into our kimxhi scrubs, we had to go into a room where they blasted VERY strong streams of air on us to get rid of....whatever...after the air bath, they let us into the kimchi making room, et voila~~~
and that is about the worst picture of me ever taken...but it is funny as hell~~~

i agree with deb.. if someone showed me that pic and said it was a brain, i would hav believed it..
but i know its kimchi.. its cool..
i find it funny you guys needed to get sterilized before making kimchi? exactly which part is radioactive? the kimchi or the aftermath of eating it
what happen to old fashion granny's sitting around making a batch of kimchi in a rubber bucket... >.<

but where are they wearing area 51 suits to make kimchi???
thats why i thought they were holding up body parts...

hahahahaha....area 51 suits.... that's kinda what it felt like too. they also made us go through this sterile room where they gave us a few good blasts of air before they let us into the kimchi making lab. i guess they wanted to minimize the amount of dead cell matter that would be falling into the kimchi as we were making it. i wish i had more pics...the whole sterile room was kinda surreal...especially since i've participated in several kimjang's and know what it's really like to be dragging your brine soaked heads of cabbage outta the tub in the bathroom....

just imagine a kimchee congjang in the states...it would probably be just like that...if its for distribution...i would hope they keep it clean...dont want to find something that doesnt belong in a vacuum sealed pkg of kimchee...

its great what stuff people go through to keep food clean..
just thought it was whacky, with the area 51 suits.. as if they were going to marinade an alien...
maybe im just too used to my mom making the kimchi in the kitchen, and me sitting in front stealing pieces of it while its still fresh and crunchy... damn.. i did that since i was 5 and still do it..
