this guy is a true scammer. he preyed on koreans that own businesses and deal with a lot of cash. the biggest reason for this is because those koreans are much less likely to report that he's a scammer. if i own a small store and i've been writing that i make 20k on my taxes each year for the past 20 years and i gave this guy $200k to invest and he ran away with it, i've got a lot of explaining to do to the IRS when i report this scammer. of course these business owners scam the IRS so it's not like they can open up an account with merril lynch so they aren't angels either but still.

he did the classic scam...get people to invest...give them great returns for awhile so that the people will invest more and more and then disappear. he even wrote up fake statements saying where their money is invested in, etc.

instead, he basically put the money into his personal bank account....bought a ferrari, lambourghini, etc. went to vegas (was such a high roller than the MGM would send over a private jet), brought girls from the LA room salons with him, etc. dude was livin it up.

he disappeared now. office is closed up. FBI thinks he's in korea somewhere (they have record of him boarding a flight and getting into korea). korean authorities don't know where he is.

korean authorities estimate that he scammed about 100 million dollars. the US articles say 30+ million but most of the people he scammed aren't willing to admit that he scammed them (IRS issue again).

one last comment on that cash thing...the best houses for theives to break into are the homes of korean small business owners. they keep a ton of cash hidden around the house to hide it from the IRS and even though they'll report the burglary, they aren't going to report that the thief got out with $100k or whatever because of IRS problems. even better...the thieves would hold up korean small markets and the koreans who own the market rarely report it to the cops because it will leave a record that there was a hold up at the store. when the korean guy decides to sell the store, it won't sell because it gets held up so much. so most koreans will just eat it.
