SmileyThu May 13, 2004 12:21 pm
I just joined and this was the only section with no post so I wanted to be the first one. :P

Anyways, Here's my portfolio. I've been investing for less than a year so give me some advice.

HomeDepot bought at $34.04
Cisco bought at $22.75
MAMA bought at $13.45

any input?

Me: $42K in a mutual (S&P 500) with 10K in a small-mid cap fund. I contribute $600 a month into these.

How volatile can a stock be? Gains/losses of 10%/day??

i've been investing for about 10 years. made a lot of money with the dot com bubble....lost a lot of money + more when it burst.

today? i mess around with stocks now and then to gamble. have retirement in mutual funds and stuff like that mostly.

if anyone is interested in a personal financial planner, i'd be happy to refer you to the guy that i use. i used to manage all of this stuff myself but it just got too time consuming to do it right so i like using the advisor.

some say it's not a good deal, etc...but i have IRA, Roth IRA, 401k, variable comp life, and some other savings/type investment accounts (instead of using a bank savings account).

did you know that at the current rates of increase, college will cost like $150k/year when our kids go to college?

stocks can be very volatile. probably my worst stock purchase was ARBA (ariba). bought at like $140 and sold at around $1.

If you guys are interested:

OTRA Beer
www.otrabeer.com

you can buy into the company for $1/share. It's planning on going public in about a month and will open on NASDAQ for approx. $6.

BUT: You can't sell for a year.
