sweep Japan. While this new trend is a boon to the
Korean entertainment industry, not everyone is thrilled
about the recent interest in Korea that has taken Japan
by storm. Nevertheless, scholars predict the trend will
continue as more Korean stars get exposure in the
Japanese media.
Plans to cease using the
English word “condom” in favor of a more “Korean” term
have been set aside. The Korean Anti-AIDS Foundation
held a contest to rename the rubber prophylactic and
came up with “ae-pil” instead of the commonly used word
“condom”. Complaints due to the similarity of “ae-pil”
and some surnames in Korea have halted plans to
implement the use of the new term. Does anybody but me
find it disturbing that reportedly only 10 percent of
people in Korea use condoms when having sex??
