Q & A with Jewel K...
Ktown213:
Jewel, give us your 30 second intro!
Jewel K: I guess you can say I'm
an an aspiring Korean-American model, actress, and future educator.
I am very much looking forward to representing Koreans in our society.
Ktown213: We all know about your
aspirations to become a model/actress, but when did you have thoughts of
becoming a teacher?
Jewel K: Since childhood my
first goal was to become a school teacher, along with my dreams of being a
model & actress. Never camera shy & always outspoken & outgoing, I
knew I had the drive in me. In recent years after graduating
undergrad from Temple University (B.S. in Early Childhood & Elementary
Education), I am now pursuing my Master's in Elementary Education at the
Villanova University.
Ktown213: How is it at
Villanova University?
Jewel K: I love it! I'm
also the only Korean female in the grad department for Education,
currently in the program. The other Asian students are teachers from
China, but I am the one Korean representing. Since starting grad
school I've taken the initiative to pursue my extra curricular interests
in modeling & acting. You know, I would love to also pursue singing
in the near future too.
Ktown213:
OK, going back to your modeling aspirations, how did you get into it?
Jewel K: One night during an
Asian club party, a girlfriend took me out & it was my first time going to
a night club here in Pennsylvania, at age 19! I guess you can say I
was a very sheltered girl because I was never allowed to go out throughout
high school. Well that same night they featured an anonymous model
contest, meaning anyone could enter. We would walk on stage a few
times while the crowd cheered & the judges voted. Even my girlfriend
& her friends competed. I didn't know about this contest until that
night so just imagine, I wasn't even prepared! But I just went up
wearing my tank and mini skirt. As soon as I stepped up, the crowd
cheered wildly and I received the $200 cash prize. I will never
forget that rush of energy inside & my heart beating fast as the crowd
roared me on. I never in my life had that experience but from that
moment on, I realized I was on to something. Later on, I decided to
take bolder risks & started off with the night scene as a cocktail girl
for local Asian Clubs. From cocktail girl to small promo jobs, now I
am represented by 10 agencies here in the tri-state area (PA, NJ, DE).

Ktown213: Do you plan to stay in
Pennsylvania forever?
Jewel K: No, New York would be
my next big step, and California my ultimate dream to end at.
Ktown213: Any bad sides to
modeling?
Jewel K: So far no. As
long as you are represented by legit agencies, you are on the right track.
I also recommend reading a book called "A Model's Primer". It helps
you understand the business. The book also teaches you about taking
your own initiatives.
Ktown213:
Which career path would you take more seriously?
Jewel K: Well, especially over
here in small town PA, it's best to hold a fulltime career focus,
education in my case. I'd like to pursue modeling/acting part time
on the side as extra curricular enjoyment because you can not rely on it
for full time income. But I will say that even when I begin
teaching, I plan to continue modeling/acting on my free time.
Ktown213: What advise would you
give to others in your position?
Jewel K: Jewel K's quote:
Dedication, internal motivation, understanding the business, and
commitment is what leads to successful outcome. Also, I highly
recommend taking acting classes on the side, since you can't really just
get by with modeling alone. Especially if you don't have what's
called the super model height! I'm don't have it, so I pursue acting
together with modeling. Most of my agencies book jobs for
modeling & acting together, not one or the other.
Ktown213: Who has been a big
inspiration in your life?
Jewel K: Family, friends, and
ultimately God. I'm a strong believer in God I believe God is the
inspiration for my being, health, and life. My family and friends
are gifts from above. They're really helpful, supportive,
encouraging, loving, and caring.
Ktown213: What do you like to do
for fun, or what are your hobbies?
Jewel K: Because of my busy
schedule, I put time for personal fun & hobbies on the bottom of my
priority list. Another part time endeavor? I currently work as
a "Main Line Nanny." That's a professional name for being a
babysitter. I work for some prestigious families in my local area.
We have a very large need for nannies in my area and I am represented by
two childcare referral companies. I only wish I knew about this
while I was an undergrad student, it would've helped me out a lot.
Some families offer room, board, money, and all living expenses paid for.
There are currently many families in need. If anyone in the PA area
is interested, contact me

Ktown213:
OK, time for some useless chatter. Are you a cat lover or dog lover?
Jewel K: I love dogs! I'm
allergic to cats though! One day, I would love contribute big in
helping out abused animals. I'm a big believer in caring for our
animals!
Ktown213: Wow, so passionate
about animals...
Jewel K: Well, being raised only
a few minutes away from local farms, my childhood days consisted of riding
horses & attending horse shows and dog shows. I think that's where
my love for animals stem from. I learned to appreciate the Earth &
its living creatures.
Ktown213: What do you like to
eat?
Jewel K: Well I keep up with
good health habits. I eat my fruits, veggies, drink plenty of h2o,
low carb foods, organic foods, and I exercise consistently.
Ktown213: What was the last
movie you watched?
Jewel K: Last movie I saw was
Kill Bill.
Ktown213: It's starting to get a
bit chilly here in California. What do you like to do during winter
in Pennsylvania?
Jewel K: For winter time I love
to stay snuggled up inside my house, sipping on some hot chocolate with
marsh mellows. It's freezing cold here snow storms are common.
Sometimes you have to stay inside until the next day. The snow can
gets steep here, from several inches to a feet tall snow! See
nothing like Cali life style!
Ktown213: Any recent credits or
projects? Where can we see more of Jewel K?
Jewel K: I've mostly been doing
live promotional jobs. Just this past weekend I worked at a small
booth for the Eagles Game as a Foreman Mills model. I may be
featured in an upcoming TV commercial. Also look for me in
December's Maxim issue. It's not a photo shoot on me but I was
booked for a private Maxim & Budweiser Double Exposure party. The
Maxim photographer said we should be featured as thumbnails on one of the
pages from the party. I also danced it up with Dr. Maxim herself on
camera! Lastly, I've been auditioning for several television roles.
If anything exciting comes up I will let you know.
Ktown213: What are your turn-ons
and turn-offs?
Jewel K: My turn-ons are genuine
sincere guys who look for people's inner beauty & seek a meaningful
experience with others. Turn-offs are guys who do not keep their
word, and are disloyal. Guys who don't care to appreciate the beauty
around them, nor appreciate life.
Ktown213: Have you ever been to
K-Town Los Angeles? If so, how’d you like it?
Jewel K: I visited during my
birthday weekend around Sept 18th. I would love to visit again!
I've yet to learn more about the Korean culture & life style in K-Town.
I'm definitely excited about visiting California in the near future.
California is definitely much more diverse! I miss it. We
don't even have a Koreatown in Pennsylvania. The nearest K-Town is
New York and it's only about a block long. It's nothing compared to
California's K-Town.
Ktown213: Where do you see
yourself 5 years from now?
Jewel K: Doing what I love,
teaching full time, and modeling & acting part time. Exactly where,
I don't know at this moment.
Ktown213: And finally, your
favorite website?
Jewel K: Ktown213.com of course!
Also, I love bebe.com, I love their clothes and I used to work there!
Ktown213: Well we thank you for
your time Jewel, you’re certainly a beautiful lady, and we wish you the
best of luck!
Jewel K:
Thank you Ktown213!
