Snacky Chan

Ktown213:  Snacky Chan, please give us your brief intro!
Snacky Chan:  What's the deal K-Town?  It's Big Chan in your area!  I'm a Hip-Hop superstar, recognize!  My real name is 'Roy Kim,' MC name is 'Chan,' or 'Snacky Chan.'  Yes I'm Korean, proud of it, originally from New Jersey, now doin' my thang in Boston. I just dropped my debut album 'Part of the Nation,' and although I may be biased, I'd have to say, it's the shizznit!

KT213:  When did your love for Hip-Hop begin? How did you get your start?
SC:  My love for Hip-Hop began in the early 90's. Love at first sound. I was introduced to Hip-Hop by some neighbors of mine whose parents were involved in the rap industry. It started off as just love for the music. There was a vibe and style to it that I thought was fascinating. I began emulating my favorite rap stars and singing along to their rhymes, began writing my own, and it eventually became my profession.

KT213:  What's been your most difficult challenge in the music industry?
SC:  I can't say any one particular thing or event has been challenging. The challenge was to persist over a long period of time. Sustaining hope and a positive attitude, maintaining your drive in the face of uncertainty and doubt is the most challenging thing in this business. However, nothing worth having is ever easy to attain.

KT213:  In 2001, you were recognized for your hard work and you were nominated 'Best New Rap/Hip-Hop Act' at the Boston Music Awards. Was that your proudest moment?
SC:  Although I did not take that award home with me that year, just being nominated was a thrill. I made mad moves in the span of a year and accomplished many of my goals in a short period of time. I was definitely proud but at the same time I knew there was much much more to accomplish.

KT213:  Where can we see more of Snacky Chan, especially in the Westcoast area?
SC:  I have a couple of shows out there in mid-November. I'll be a guest performer at Kollaboration and I'm having an album release party with GlamLA (www.glamla.com) at the Sunset Room. If any promoters are reading this, make sure you holler at my management team at: dynastymuzik@snackychan.com!

KT213:  It seems like you hear a lot about different Asian rappers these days, at least at an underground level. In your opinion, do you think Asian rappers have the potential to go mainstream?
SC:  Depending on their level of skill and marketability, most definitely Asian rappers can go mainstream. Believe it or not, being mainstream is not about skill, it's all about how many people will support your products. It doesn't take a brain-surgeon to understand that we are un-represented in any media outlet. There's a huge demand, and I'm gonna quench that thirst for representation.

KT213:  Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
SC:  In five years I see myself as a successful artist with major label backing, branching out into other business ventures, and solidifying my record label, 'Dynasty Muzik,' discovering and pushing new talent.

KT213:  What's your thought on Koreatown? Any favorites places to visit?
SC:  Laugh Factory with my man PK, Le Prive, Melrose, anywhere there's kalbi…

KT213:  For all the ladies out there, are you single? What are your turn-ons and turn-offs?
SC:  Yeah, I'm single. Turn-ons? A nice booty, intelligence, humor, style, well educated, appreciates art.. Turn-offs: bad attitudes, whack style, dishonesty..

KT213:  Well we thank you for your time, and we wish you the best of luck!
SC:  No doubt! Thank you Ktown213 for having me!  It's been a pleasure..stay in tune with my moves at www.snackychan.com! ONE!
