Min Jung Kim
Ktown213:  Hi MJ, give us your 30 second intro...
MJ:  Tada! Hiya, I'm a Korean American writer who grew up in the mid west and now causes general mischief and shenanigans in the SF bay area. I'm in a 12 step program for being an incorrigible flirt. I write for KoreAm Journal, CitiView, and iistix. My personal site's at http://minjungkim.com.

Kt213:  I know you're one of the OG "BLoggers" and you've been blogging before it became so...mainstream. How did it all start for you, and what's your take on blogging now?
MJ:  3 years ago I had just started writing my monthly piece for iistix.  I liked it but had too many things happen more than just once a month to write about.  So I started writing daily or near daily entries using homestead for an old clunky ugly website. This was well before I got to sit in a hot tub with the founder of Blogger and got convinced that I should really use something easier for writing my daily rants. Now I'm using Moveable Type.  I have not sat in a hot tub with Ben or Mena Trott but I'd bet it'd be fun. It all started with me wanting to write up some small updates for friends and to get some ideas out on paper or pixel. It just kind of grew through RiceBowl Journals and etc.  I became exposed to loads of other really cool blogs and bloggers.  Now everyone and their mother and cat has a blog.  I think it's good to have folks consider writing on a regular basis and to practice that.  I just wish they all knew how to spell. That MiXeD CaP sHiT is a big pet peeve.

Kt213:  You're writing style well respected by many, but quite cynical. Are you that cynical in real life?
MJ:  Bit*h.  Betta recognize!

Kt213:  You have your own column "Miscellaneous Mutterings" in the KoreAm Journal. How did that come about, and how is that experience?
MJ:  Actually, an intern at KoreAm Journal had read my column in iistix and mentioned that I should get in touch with the editor at KoreAm.  Prior to then, I hadn't really considered writing professionally but waddayaknow, here I is.

Kt213:  Do you see yourself working in journalism for a long time?
MJ:  Crossing fingers, I'd like to be writing for a while. i recently picked up another freelance writing gig local to SF and I think I'm pretty fortunate that I've gotten the positive exposure as a writer that I've had. I've even been solicited and recruited to do some writing for a few Asian Canadian publications. Go figure.

Kt213:  For Min Jung Kim, what does it mean to be a female Korean-American?
MJ:  Being very angry. Very very angry.

Kt213:  Although you currently work and reside in SF, I'm sure you've visited Ktown LA. What's your impression of Ktown, Los Angeles?
MJ:  Not necessarily in this order: Traffic. Good food. Too many hair products. Karaoke.

Kt213:  OK, quick replies please!  Your ideal celebrity mate.
MJ:  Oooh, that one straight non scientologist guy with brains. Oh wait. Never mind. Seriously though, probably Edward Norton.
