A letter from his brother.
My name is Royce Chin and over the weekend my brother, Brian Chin was senselessly stabbed to death over the weekend. With the illness of my father, it was hard to watch my mother care for a man that was like Superman to me my whole life until the past two years. I witnessed painfully as she took did everything to take care of him the last two years. My father beat death twice in his life, but an oversight by a careless doctor proved to be too much, and we painfully buried our loving dad two months ago.
During this whole time, my brother did all he could, never complaining about the responsibilities thrown his way. He encouraged me to start my life, and that he would take care of everything back at home and watch my mother that cried everyday in pain from the loss of the husband she loved unconditionally. Because of his selfless sacrifice, I was able to get married and start my life in San Diego this past year.
On 7/05/06, Brian had a baby boy. Brian, my mother and sister came down to southern California to see his brand new baby one week after. He had promised to take care of some church kids during the weekend and he was not able to come right away. This past Friday night, he went out with some friends to Koreatown in L.A. to celebrate the birth of his son Jayden.
Upon shortly sitting down at a café called Blink in the early morning hours of 7/15/06, there was a confrontation that ensued behind where Brian was sitting. After trying to warn the people to stop slamming into them, a friend sitting next to Brian decided to stand up and diffuse the two guys. Brian stood up and pulled the friend away after an exchange, where they proceeded to exit.
Once outside, they were confronted with a guy perpetrating as if he had a gun. Brian and two friends wrestled away the weapon, which ended up being a crowbar. Shortly after, they proceeded to walk to their cars two blocks away where they were followed into a parking lot. The 5 or so that were following turned into 9-15 guys where they cowardly maced two friends that were with Brian. As Brian was defending off the group of guys after him, everyone of the cowards put their focused on him. As if being outnumbered was not enough, they brutally stabbed him in the back and front over and over again 16+ times. All I see when I close my eyes now is my brother being stabbed over and over again, and what his last thoughts may have been. Probably of his newborn son, and the family he would leave behind.
There is a void in my heart and the sadness and pain I feel is indescribable. Brian was truly a fearless person, always there for me and his friends. I’ve know him his whole life of 27 years, and there was never a moment where I felt things could not be accomplished with him by my side. These punks robbed me of my brother, and robbed his friends of a truly unique person. I ask for prayers, information possibly leading to the capture of these cowards, and donations, so I can give my brother a just and proper funeral. You can contact me at [email protected] . I thank everyone for their support.
